Check all slings regularly, particularly after laundering. Important checkpoints:
* Seams
* Fabric
* Loops
* Straps
Check all points closely for wear and damage.
Laundering:
Follow the laundry instructions on the sling.
Laundering temperature: usually at least 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees
Fahrenheit)
Do not use bleach.
Do not tumble dry.
Drying cabinet may be used. Padded and reinforced parts may be dried by
rolling them in a towel and pressing out the moisture.
General Advice:
Slings should be considered as consumable products that are of critical
importance to patient safety.
Cotton fabric has a shorter life span than nylon or polyester fabric.
The handles found on some slings are intended to be used to steer, not
lift, patients.
Excessive force on the handles may break the seams.
*At times, small holes may be visible in the slings constructed of green
nylon. These holes are not hazardous, and do not affect the safety or
